Fukuyama is the leading grape producer in Hiroshima Prefecture, with the period from June to September constituting the grape season in the region. There are several varieties under cultivation, including pione and muscat.

Grape picking is a great way to understand the importance of agriculture to the Chugoku area of Japan. Fruit is a passion in Fukuyama but the delicious grapes in particular have attracted a lot of attention nationwide.

One of the reasons for this attention comes from the birth of several boutique wineries around the region in recent years. It seems that an increasing number of locals are keen to take advantage of Fukuyama’s ideal wine producing environment.
