Tottori Flower Park, known locally as Hanakairo is a beautifully landscaped garden located in the countryside just outside of Yonago City. Situated on roughly 50 acres of manicured land the flower park has been perfectly designed to give visitors a total sensory experience. With the towering presence of Mt. Daisen in the distance, the park is in an ideal setting.
As you enter, the first striking piece of architecture that you are likely to notice is the flower dome, which is actually an immense geodesic greenhouse. If you visit during the winter or early spring, the cascading warmth found inside the structure is very pleasant. The dome is filled with giant palmettos and an assortment of tropical and subtropical plants and flowers. As the main structure in the park, events are held there regularly.
The next architectural wonder is the elevated circular one kilometer walkway that connects the main buildings of the park. It creates the sensation that you are floating above the flowers and the woods that outline the garden. This is the best place to get a complete view of the park and all its installations. Of course majestic Mt. Daisen dominates the panorama.
There is a theatre and photo gallery building for those interested in seeing how other visitors have interpreted the park. Like many places around the park there is ample seating as well if you need to take a break.
The shop near the entrance has flowers for sale and offers a chance to try your hand at flower arrangement. Several drink vending machines are in this area just in case you didn’t bring one with you.
