Open seven days a week from 9:00am to 9:00pm, the Takahashi City Library is the newest member of the Takahashi River basin group of libraries. Located conveniently next to JR Bitchu Takahashi Station, the library is wonderfully accessible.

Arguably one of the best libraries in the prefecture, this facility was purposely built to offer a superb space for the residents of the city patrons prefecture wide to pursue a variety of interests.

Beautifully designed, the entire library is a super WiFi hotspot with several providers offering free service. This a unique feature as free WiFi is just beginning to blossom in the prefecture, with the airport, shopping centers and malls taking the lead in this area.

The 2nd floor of the library features books related to everyday life and internet technology, as well as a Tsutaya bookstore and Starbucks coffee shop.

The 3rd floor houses books on the humanities and science with spaces available for research and study. Current and archived newspapers are also accessible here. If you are interested in events in the local history of the area, this is a great place in which to access the archives and look at pictures from the past.

The entire family will enjoy the open spaces on the 4th floor where children’s picture books are prominent.There is plenty of room to move around for kids and adults, so families with young children in particular should take advantage of this space.

Takahashi City has discovered a great formula for innovation in its various cultural planning pursuits. The library is simply one of the many brilliant highlights of this endeavor.

Don’t forget that the library is walking distance to several historic landmarks such as the merchant houses and Takahashi Christian Church. Also, take a walk down the main commercial street and cross the road so you can have a look at the Takahashi River.

There is a promenade that goes on for several hundred meters in either direction and is a wonderful spot from which to view the tree-covered mountains on the other side of the river. In the spring, the flowering trees are in full bloom and add an extra touch of beauty to this castle town.

Spend the entire day in Takahashi City exploring its past and discovering all it has to offer. The city library is a great place to start.



Takahashi City is a small municipality along the Takahashi River and is notable for is historic buildings and wonderful townscape. The standout structure of he city is Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, which is located high in the mountains. There are also former samurai residences, a temple and a historic church.

Nariwa Town is part of Takahashi City and is about a twenty minute bus ride away. Although the city center has a lot to offer there is much to see in the surrounding towns and villages. Nariwa is a quiet old town with a landscape that is stunning at any time of the year.


Access: From JR Okayama Station, take the JR Hakubi Line to JR Bitchu Takahashi Station. After exiting JR Bitchu Takahashi Station, walk to the left. The library is directly next to the station.

Cancellation Policy

1) Detailed tour information & conditions will be given after application is made; please read and confirm the final itinerary before the departure date.
2) Reservations: Fill out the application contact form; application is complete upon payment. Reservations accepted by phone, mail, fax, online, or other communicative methods. The contract is not valid at time of reservation; the customer will be asked to submit an application form and payment within 3 days from time of reservation. If application form and payment are not submitted within the term, the reservation shall be considered void.
3) Items not included in tour price: Transportation costs not included in itinerary, optional tour fees, excess baggage fees, any fees of a personal nature (phone bills, meal costs, etc.) Items excluded from the tour will be stated in the tour information.
4) Cancellation fees: When the application is cancelled by the customer or when payment has not been made by the specified date, Ryobi Tours shall receive a percentage of the per person tour fee as a cancellation fee, or a penalty fee. Differences in room charges that result from one person in a group cancelling shall be charged to the participating person(s).
