Designed by Tadao Ando, the museum is a testament to Takahashi City’s commitment to promoting art in the region. Japanese impressionism is hallmark of the museum’s collection, featuring the work of Torajiro Kojima. Kojima was a contemporary of the great artist Yumeji and was part of what is considered by many to be the belle époque of art internationally.
Located in a beautiful natural environment, the museum could seen as part of an international trend to establish centers of art appreciation outside of urban areas. The concept behind its design is to create a seamless flow between the building and the surrounding nature.
