Located on the main street that runs through Niimi City (Route 180), next to Edion electric goods shop, sits a retro-looking building that is understated in its
exterior design. However, once you enter this quaint little coffee shop you will immediately sense that this is a real hub for locals to congregate over coffee.

It is owned and operated by a husband and wife duo who returned to Niimi 35 years prior after having lived in Tokyo as actors. As a way to stay true to their love of cinema, the coffee shop hosts a weekly movie night.

The centerpiece of the interior design is the display of over 300 cups and saucers that have been collected over the last 50 years. In the corner you will also notice a coffee roaster which looks like an antique but is actually used twice a week to roast the beans.

Apart from a huge selection of coffee and tea made with barista skill, the owner adheres to a brewing technique from decades ago, before the advent of the bulky automated machines you see in large coffee chains today. A well-loved combination at the shop is a cup of aromatic coffee with a slice of freshly-made rare cheesecake.

Open everyday except for Mondays from 9am to 8pm, add this coffee shop to your list of places to visit in Niimi. It is the perfect spot to relax, refresh and chat with locals.

About the Area

Niimi is a city in northwestern Okayama Prefecture on the border with Tottori Prefecture. It is a municipality full of natural wonders, excellent agriculture and old world charm.

Central Niimi is an attractive and livable space with parks and a number of civic buildings. In fact, the city’s central park is a popular location for cherry blossom viewing and picnic lunches.

There is a small river that runs within the town and winds through a tree-lined area, so it is lovely to stroll around the city center.

The outer areas of Niimi are fantastic places to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, skiing and caving.

The local ski slopes are a magnet for skiers and snowboarders who are looking for an excellent alternative to the Hiruzen and Daisen regions.

The Osa district is a nature lovers paradise, with hills that attract  paragliders in search of spectacular highland views from a bird’s-eye perspective.

Ikura-do and Maki-do cave offer two thrilling caving possibilities and are a refreshing way to beat the summer heat and get a bit of exercise at the same time.

The Chiya district of the city is home to a well-appointed hot spring, where onsite restaurant serves locally produced high quality Chiya beef.
