Kibichuo is a highland town in the forest-covered heartland of Okayama Prefecture. The mixture of intense natural beauty and incredible agricultural delights sets it apart from other regions of the prefecture.

This unique quality has turned the town into a magnet for those looking to get away from the stress of city life. In fact, there is even a development that caters to those looking to relocate or invest in a vacation home.

Since the founding of Kibi Kougen (Kibichuo Town’s commercial/industrial center) and the building boom that saw the creation of a myriad of social and educational facilities, Kibi Plaza has become the de-facto center of Kibichuo Town.

The plaza is a gathering place, shopping center and community center all rolled into one. There is a hotel and several restaurants on site and it is the main venue for events and festivals throughout the year.

One of the highlights of the year at the plaza and the park is the annual Sansan Festival in mid to late April, where you can enjoy delicious food, hear live music and watch colorful dance performances. It is a great opportunity to plug into the flow of everyday life in the town.

Kibichuo Park is the sprawling 10-hectare piece of land that is directly behind Kibi Plaza, beyond the signature circular elevated walkway. There is plenty of space to stretch out and run about on the grass and through the trees. There are picnic areas with benches and gazebos as well as playground equipment for the kids.

If you would like to stay the night and get the most out of your visit to the park, stay at the hotel at the plaza. This will give you a chance to see the sights of Kibichuo Town. As the park and the hotel are centrally located, you will have the perfect chance to explore the Kayo District, with its wonderful roadside station.
