Founded in 1984, Yoshida farms is a small scale dairy farm and cheese atelier located in the Kamogawa district of Kibichuo Town. A graduate of the faculty of agriculture at Hokkaido University, the owner had the idea of producing natural cheese in the French style in Japan.
In the beginning cheese was made from milk that was acquired from a local agricultural collective but eventually Yoshida Farms was able to source milk from its own cows.
As the business steadily grew, the owner wanted to expand beyond the British varieties of cheese that the atelier was producing and used funds from awards and grants to travel to France and Italy in order to do research on cheese making and the restaurant business,
This research led Yoshida Farms to formulate a process by which the great cheese of southern Europe could be created in the climate of Okayama Prefecture. They began to produce farm fresh cheese that would make its way to restaurant tables all over Japan.Riccota, mozzarella and Camembert are just a few of the cheeses that are made at the farm.
Yoshida Farms has appeared on national public television and a number of other media outlets. A few books have also been published which explain the road to national success and commemorate over three decades of hard work and excellence.
The farm shop/eatery is open daily from 11am-3pm and serves a delicious selection of cheese-based dishes as well as highland meats and vegetables in an atmosphere that is both rustic and elegant at the same time.
