At Kochi Yosakoi Information Exchange Center it contains everything you need to know about this dance festival. It’s free to enter with some great locals who can guide you through the different exhibitions. On the ground floor introduces the history of the festival, a detailed account of the festivals evolution from a local Kochi celebration of dance to the festival that has become famous around the world. You can see in display boxes the different prizes given to the winning teams, and some incredible diorama frames of the costumes worn.
As you walk to the second level, you pass through a corridor of posters used for promoting the event each year, mixed with some flashbacks of fashion from the 1960s and 1970s. The second floor houses a colorful display of the costumes in life form.
Next you are lead into a room with a giant screen which is used to teach you how to do the Yosakoi dance. This will entertain you and make you understand the skill of the dancers as what seems simple is actually not.
The final space is where you can do a workshop for making the clapper which all teams use in their performances.
