A five minute ferry ride from Tomonoura in Fukuyama City will transport you to Sensuijima Island. This natural retreat is an easily accessible getaway where you can encounter experiences that will stimulate your senses.
Witness the mesmerizing glow of the sea fireflies (umi hotaru), which despite being affectionately being given the same name as the beloved insect that is found along streams and rivers throughout Japan, are actually a form of plankton.
There are night tours available where you can see the mystical glow of the sea fireflies that wash up onto the coast of the island. You do not need to prepare anything special such as bait to attract them.

Access: Take the Shinkansen from JR Okayama Station to JR Fukuyama Station. Take the bus bound for Tomo Port to Tomonoura. Take a 5 minute ferry ride to Sensuijima.
About the Area
Fukuyama is the second largest city in Hiroshima Prefecture and borders Okayama Prefecture to the west. The city is famous for is annual rose festival and the splendid Fukuyama castle. The castle is the cultural center of the city, as many yearly events and festivals are held there or in the vicinity.
Tomonoura is a port district of the city that has become well-known for its use in both live action and animated features. Most famous for being the inspiration behind the setting of the Studio Ghibli animated film Ponyo, the quaint Edo era structures of the town have a timeless appeal.
There are quite a number of sights to see within Tomonoura, including Fukuzenji Temple, with its stunning view of the Benten Island. You can also visit the elegant Enpuku-ji Temple. Other sights on the mainland include the Joyato Lantern, Ankoku-ji Temple and Nunakuma Shrine.
Just off the Tomonoura coast is the resort island of Sensuijima, which can be reached by ferry in a few minutes. The island has three hotels, a swimming beach, a hiking course and a number of notable scenic spots. There are also several heated seawater baths around the island as well.

2) Reservations: Fill out the application contact form; application is complete upon payment. Reservations accepted by phone, mail, fax, online, or other communicative methods. The contract is not valid at time of reservation; the customer will be asked to submit an application form and payment within 3 days from time of reservation. If application form and payment are not submitted within the term, the reservation shall be considered void.
3) Items not included in tour price: Transportation costs not included in itinerary, optional tour fees, excess baggage fees, any fees of a personal nature (phone bills, meal costs, etc.) Items excluded from the tour will be stated in the tour information.
4) Cancellation fees: When the application is cancelled by the customer or when payment has not been made by the specified date, Ryobi Tours shall receive a percentage of the per person tour fee as a cancellation fee, or a penalty fee. Differences in room charges that result from one person in a group cancelling shall be charged to the participating person(s).
