Niimi Feudal Lord Parade

Niimi City
October 15

Niimi was founded in 1697 by a feudal lord from the Tsuyama region of Okayama Prefecture. Today, it is a city full of modern conveniences and ample reminders of its Edo era past.

Held annually on October 15 in central Niimi, the Daimyo Parade commemorates the arrival of its first ruler. Dressed in the colorful regalia of the day, the members of the procession portray the characters that would have been present over 300 years ago.

The procession consists of 64 participants, portraying a number of roles, including samurai, flag bearers, rifle bearers, archers and heralds. One of the unique aspects of the Niimi Daimyo Parade is that a horse, fitted with its own regal adornments, is part of the procession.

Access: Take the Hakubi Line from JR Okayama Station to JR Niimi Station.
