Ashimori is a district located in northwest Okayama City and is highly regarded for its historic townscape of Edo era merchant homes that line the center of the old town. During feudal times the region was controlled by the lords of the Kinoshita family, who left behind a wonderful cultural legacy, including the Omizu-en Garden.
Ashimori’s nature is as stunning as its townscape and one example of this is the Hotaru no Sato firefly viewing area. The Ashimori River is home to the several species of firefly which are best viewed from the end of May to the beginning of June.
